Internet Banking, sau Online Banking, este un termen folosit pentru efectuarea de tranzactii bancare prin intermediul Internetului. Aceasta permite clientilor sa deruleze operatiunile cu banca si in afara de orele de program ale banicii, de orinude au acces la internet. In cele mai multe cazuri pentru aceste operatiuni se utilizaeaza un browser de web obisnuit si o conexiune de internet obisnuita. Nu este necesara utilizarea nici unui hardware (echipament) sau software (pachet de programe) special.Termenul mai larg utilizat in Romania pentru astfel de servicii este Internet Banking, insa exista o serie de banci, in special cele straine cu reprezentante in Romania care utilizeaza si Online Banking pentru a descrie aceste servicii pe care ele le ofera clientilor. Din punct de vedere al clientului, Internet Bankingul este un instrument de comunicare cu banca, o modalitate prin care el comunica teoretic in permanenta cu banca ('chiar si in afara orelor de program' ) pentru a transmite instructiunile sale catre aceasta. Vice versa, din punct de vedere al bancii, Internet Bankingul este un serviciu cu valoare adaugata pe care banca il ofera clientilor sai, insa este si o modalitate prin care banca transfera o parte din operatiunile sale curente de la ghiseul sucursalei catre un alt canal comunicare. La limita, un serviciu de Internet Banking din punct de vedere al clientului-utilizator este o pagina de internet prin care el ordona plati si isi consulta situatia conturilor deschise la banca. Principalele diferente si asemenari cu alte tipuri de instrumente de comunicare la distanta cu banca in postul urmator.
